David Cresswell is the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. A soldier in the Vietnam war, Cresswell was a congressman and later Senator before being chosen as the new FBI Director. He has a strong interest in the work of Fox Mulder, who he kept an eye on during his time in Congress, and who he became aware of through his close friend Richard Matheson. Following advice from his Deputy, Walter Skinner, he re-opened the X files. At some point in 2005, he came under the influence of Schattenjaeger.
